Off duty policeman stops gas cylinder robbers
An off-duty policeman this morning arrested two men who are believed to have been behind a spate of thefts of gas cylinders in Attard and other localities.
The policeman spotted a White Toyota which was wanted by the police and tailed it for some 2km in his car.
One of the men was observed darting in and out of people's front gardens, looking for gas cylinders. The car then drove up and two gas cylinders were stolen.
The thefts are thought to be drug-related, with the men selling the cylinders to gas distributors for the cash to buy drugs.
The policeman was assisted by members of the Mobile Squad to make the arrest.

'the highest of honours'? what he did was admirable, but it's not like he jumped into a fire and rescued a classroom of children is it?

This also shows the importance of patrols, mobile or on foot, in uniform or mufti. When will the authorities learn that police presence will minimise greatly the criminals from their actions

Very well done to the police officer concerned. It just goes to prove that these folk are never really off duty so criminals beware.

Good for your, whoever you may be. It seems that more members of our forces are getting fully into the role their duties lay down. Till some time ago, a policeman usually would not have bothered, when of duty.

A big well done to the off duty policeman. If all the police force acts like this person, crime in Malta would diminish drastically.
