The house outside which a dead puppy was found nailed to an upside down cross yesterday morning had been the scene of a murder 12 years ago.

The dead puppy and the cross were nailed to the front door of a house in Mosta, where, in 1999, Frangisku Buhagiar, now aged 81, shot dead his sister after an argument sparked by burnt toast.

Mr Buhagiar subsequently served a jail term of 10 years and has since been living elsewhere.

A note left by whoever killed the puppy said it had not suffered what he (or she) had gone through.

The police today interviewed Mr Buhagiar, who denied any connection with the killing of the dog.
