Gymnastics: China’s Olympic rings gold medallist Chen Yibing won his fourth world championship title in his favourite event in Tokyo yesterday. The 27-year-old veteran scored 15.800 points with Brazil’s Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti second at 15.600 and Japan’s Koji Yamamuro third at 15.500. Japanese Kohei Uchimura failed to hold his body steady in a cross and finished sixth at 14.633.

Rugby Union: Samoa centre Eliota Fuimaono Sapolu was given a six-month suspended ban from rugby yesterday after accusing Welsh referee Nigel Owens of racism and bias following the Pacific islanders’ World Cup exit. Fuimaono Sapolu took to the social networking site again following a 13-5 defeat by defending champions South Africa last month to slam the performance of Owens.

Motor Racing: Dario Franchitti and Will Power will start side by side on row nine today as their tussle for the IndyCar series title comes down to the final race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Australia’s Power, who trails Scotland’s Franchitti by 18 points in the standings, was 17th fastest in Friday’s qualifying on the 1.5 mile oval, and Franchitti 18th.

Horse Racing: Frankel made it nine wins from nine starts as he won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes yesterday in the inaugural edition of the British Champions Day. The Sir Henry Cecil-trained superstar came home four lengths clear of Excelebration while French filly Immortal Verse was third. Frankel’s jockey Tom Queally took the lead inside the four furlong marker and was never threatened to give Cecil only his second win in the race.
