The ‘Read my thoughts’ exhibition is probably one of the largest installations put up at St James Cavalier, Valletta.

Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Mario de Marco was guest of honour.

Over10 summer weeks, under the guidance of St James Cavalier’s animation team, children aged three to 12 worked hard to transform the staircase leading to the Upper Galleries of St James Cavalier into a colourful and interactive space.

The idea behind the project was twofold. First the Young Cavaliers were asked to think of the importance of reading and writing.

Then they were challenged to put their thoughts down in words and pictures. The end result is ‘Read our thoughts’, a spectacular carpet of images and words that winds its way, snake-like, up the stairs of St James.

Working as one team, the children set off on their artistic journey from priming the wood, moving on to design until the final artworks were completed with paints.

Dr de Marco was guided round the exhibition by the young artists who explained each of their ideas.

He praised the initiative and stressed the importance of creativity especially at such a young age.

Amanda Palmier, who co-ordinated the Summer Programme at St James, thanked the children for all their hard work.
