In her column of September 25, TV and radio critic Tanja Cilia wrote that Nisġa, a cultural programme on Radio Malta, is being discontinued as from the next schedule.
I am very disappointed about this as I used to listen to this programme every Wednesday night.
As she rightly said, Nisġa was one of the few cultural programmes on Radio Malta and the other jukebox radio stations.
As its name implies, Nisġa is a weave of all things Maltese: historical events, biographies, flora and fauna, trades, wayside chapels and churches.
I used to listen to this programme every week and made sure that my son listened to it too because the features, although very informative, were very easy to understand.
This programme was also ideal for students as the information it relayed was very useful and of great help in their studies. So why has it been stopped?
It’s a real shame that the national radio station is going to turn its back on Maltese culture by deciding to discontinue one of the very few cultural programmes on its schedule.
Radio Malta should act as a benchmark for other radio stations and not act as one of the many jukebox stations.
I would therefore like to have Nisġa reinstated in Radio Malta’s programme schedule.
