€200 to be won every week in packaging waste recycling scheme

Residents who dispose of their packaging waste in bring-in sites (BIS) and through door-to-door collections now have a chance to be rewarded for their efforts, every week, with a cash prize of €200 offered by Green Pak.
Packaging items made of glass, plastic, paper and metal can effectively become lottery tickets for Green Pak’s prizes. Entrants should write down their telephone number on such items before disposing of them in one of Green Pak’s bring-in sites, or in the Recycling Tuesdays bags collected by Green Pak during the weekly door-to-door waste collections.
The lottery, operated by Green Dot Malta Ltd, will be carried out in 28 localities which form part of GreenPak’s waste recovery scheme: Attard, Balzan, Birżebbuġa, Vittoriosa, Fgura, Floriana, Għaxaq, Gudja, Ħamrun, Kalkara, Lija, Luqa, Marsa, Mqabba, Paola, Pembroke, Pietà, Qrendi, Safi, St Venera, Tarxien, Xgħajra, Żabbar, Żebbuġ and Żejtun, Sannat, Xagħra, and Xewkija.
Everybody is eligible to take part, even if their locality is not part of Green Pak’s waste recovery scheme.
Between 2006 and 2010, Green Pak iverted over 20 million kilos of packaging waste away from landfills and towards recycling. During the past 18 months, over 12 million kilos of packaging waste were collected and recycled by Green Pak. Apart from contributing in terms of moving towards the required EU recycling targets for Malta, this also means less expense for local councils.
