Actavis, one of the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical players, is donating €2 million worth of medicines to Libya.
Actavis CEO Claudio Albrecht said: “We know Libya is faced with shortages of essential supplies. That is why Actavis will be donating €2m worth of medicines to Libya. The goods left Malta on Friday en route to Tripoli.
Mr Albrecht said the role of the Maltese government in this donation was very important.
“Without Malta’s help in coordinating this, the donation wouldn’t have been possible in such a short period of time.”
A total of 170 pallets of urgent medicines will be on the way from Malta to Tripoli.
These include cardiology, anti-infective, pain management and gastrointestinal products, among others.
Actavis’ donation will be sent to the Medical Supply Organisation within the Healh Ministry in Libya, for distribution to all affected areas within the country.
The regional office in Malta is responsible for the Africa region, Libya being part of this region.
