Argentine tango, ragtime and jazz music will be performed on the flute and accordion at a concert on October 28.
Entitled ‘The Entertainers’, the concert will feature lively early 20th century music.
Flautist Silvio Zammit and accordionist Andrew Micallef will perform a number of Scott Joplin’s compositions.
Joplin (1867-1917) was an American pianist and composer who achieved fame for his unique ragtime compositions. In fact, he was dubbed ‘the King of Ragtime’, revolutionising American music and culture.
The programme will pay tribute to this great composer with performances of Original Rag, The Entertainer, Afro-American Intermezzo, Tico Tico and The Ragtime Dance.
The programme includes some compositions by the American jazz composer George Gershwin: Summertime, Fascinating Rhythm, The Man I love, and Swanee.
These songs will be followed by tango numbers: Astor Piazzolla’s Bordello, Oblivion and Libertango, followed by works by Richard Galliano, Tony Murena, Johnny Mercer and Joseph Colombo.
Artist Raymond Darmanin and two tango dancers will be participating too. Free wine will be served after the concert.
‘The Entertainers’ is being held at Sagrestia Vault, Valletta Waterfront, on October 28 at 7.30 p.m. It is organised by Barocco Cultural Events.
