ASM riders back from Agrigento track testing

Maltese riders got a better feel of the Agrigento racetrack.

Four motocross riders, representing the Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi (ASM), have just returned from Agrigento after acquainting them-selves better on a racetrack of wide dimensions in the build-up to the Sicilian Championship races on October 23.

The riders, Stefan Dimech, Josef Attard, Clayton Camilleri and Chris Muscat, were accompanied by ASM president Frans Deguara and a small support team during the visit to the Giarrizzo MX Corse for the practice sessions.

The Giarrizzo track is the longest in Sicily at 1.62kms. It is built on a hillside of high altitude offering a greater challenge to rider and motorcycle alike as stamina of man and machine play an important role at this venue.

ASM riders have already competed in a beach-cross event in Calabria before but motocross racing is mainly the trend at the Ta’ Qali racetrack.

In the Sicily championship races, Dimech and Attard, both Gozitans, will be riding a Honda 250cc while Camilleri races on his KTM 250cc.

Muscat joined the team for training purposes only.

In Agrigento, the ASM riders will also compete in the ‘MX2-250cc over 21’ class.

This is a popular and challenging category as each of the three heats last about 20 minutes.
