Domus Kids player Antoine Aquilina etched his name on the first ranking tournament trophy of the Malta Pool Association season last week when he beat Chris Mills, of St George’s, 9-7 in the final.
This was Aquilina’s first success in a ranking tournament. As the result clearly shows, he had to rely on all his skills to see off his experienced opponent in the final.
The U-21 tournament was won by Lyden Debono. He was superior to his opponents throughout the competition and not even his San Ġwann team-mate Scott Muscat could stop him as Debono won the final 8-3.
Muscat made up for that upset by securing the tournament for juniors after beating Ryan Falzon (Top Gun) 7-4 in the final.
The tournament for Masters (over 50 years) was also well contested with the winner emerging from the Top Gun club after Marcel Micallef topped the standings with maximum points. The runner-up was Alfred Attard, also of Top Gun.
