Drug courier jailed for 12 years, fined €28,000

A Liberian man who brought 783 grams of cocaine to Malta was today jailed for 12 years and fined €28,000.

Samuel Wisdom was arrested in November 2008 after flying in from Brussels. The drug was found in 77 capsules in his stomach. Its street value was between €52,000 and €82,000.

The court heard how Wisdom had plotted with another man known as Tony to carry the drug from Brussels to Malta.

Once Wisdom came to Malta and was arrested, he had cooperated with the police and a controlled delivery was attempted in order to track down his associates in Malta. However the operation failed because whoever was meant to pick up the drug got scared and did not turn up.

The court heard that the police were not able to identify other persons on the basis of the information given to them by Wisdom.

you need an extradition request from a country to be extradited. you probably mean deportation.

I agree Mr Dingli, the scenario suggests that whoever tipped the customs officials tipped off the real villain. Let's face it how can any human being know what another is carrying in his stomach, apart from the obvious, unless one is tipped off!
