McLaren's Jenson Button won the Japanese Grand Prix today ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.

The third place for Vettel was enough for the German to clinch his second championship in as many years.

Red Bull's Mark Webber came fourth, ahead of Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Michael Schumacher (Mercedes).

Button, who was second on the grid, managed to pass pole-setter Vettel during the first round of pitstops and showed superior tyre management to ensure he was never really challenged.

Vettel came close to overtaking Alonso but opted to exercise caution instead.
