Malta Enterprise is planning a second call for applications for its export management training programme under its ‘Gateway to Export’ initiative, after the first was oversubscribed.

More than 20 entrepreneurs from several sectors in manufacturing and services recently began the training programme. The second course will start next year.

Delivered by the Malta Institute of Management, the training programme is aimed at micro enterprises and small and medium-sized firms.

It is designed to imbue participants with the required skills to internationalise successfully.

Spread over 10 weeks, the course will provide opportunities for personnel training with a focus on international business development and exportation. It is based on workshops and training sessions focusing on export market characteristics and international standards.

Modules include orientation in international trade, export units, international transport and ICT in exporting, finance and risk, marketing tools, procedures and practices, and legislation. There will also be guest speakers who will share their experiences.

As part of the Gateway to Export programme, participants will also be supported in drawing up a preparation and implementation plan for export and understand whether they are export-ready and able to tap into new markets overseas.

Applicants will eventually also be assisted to venture into new markets with the acquired competencies, and given further support through Malta Enterprise schemes and grants.

Available assistance includes support for participation in specialised fairs, trade missions, brokerage events and networking, through which the enterprises would be able to take their first steps into a new market.

Information is available from Malta Enterprise’s Internationalisation Unit. E-mail internationalisation@maltaenterprise.com or call 2542 0000.
