The fellowship was founded by Dimech and his colleagues on October 21, 1911.

The Xirka was hated by the upper classes and condemned by the Church authorities due to its revolutionary nature.

Talks will be given by: Yosanne Vella on ‘Dimech and the feminine perspective’; Marco Galea on ‘Dimech’s involve-ment in the world of theatre’; Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci on ‘A Marxist reading of Dimech’ and by Desmond Zammit Marmarà on ‘Dimech as an educator’.

The conference will be chaired by Mark Montebello.

During the event a new publication, illustrated with photographs and documents, will be also be launched to commemorate the diamond anniversary of the fellowship’s foundation.
