Ian Psaila will be the new coach of National League team La Salle this season, the club said in a statement this week following an annual general meeting during which a new executive committee was elected.
Psaila was engaged to replace Swedish coach Lotta Malmberg as the official season of the Malta Handball Association rolls off at Tal-Qroqq this weekend.
La Salle were also active in summer to engage new players and succeeded in luring to their fold none other than last season’s league top scorer James Farrugia and national team player Neville Borg.
The La Salle women’s team will also be under the tutelage of a new coach in 2011-12 following the appointment of John Falzon at the helm of the team.
The La Salle girls have just taken part in a tournament in Florence, Italy. They placed third following a series of encouraging showings in their build-up to the new season.
La Salle HC president Victor Zammit said despite the changes in the club’s administration and set-ups, their teams will again rank among the challengers for the honours in all categories this season.
He thanked sponsors Trendi, Caccu Social Club, ZT Develop-ment, KIA Motors, PRO Led, Eurosport and AV Servicing for their assistance.
