Some of us were reminded again this week that whenever there is high wind or heavy rain we should expect a power cut and probably the telephones won’t be working, either.

You wouldn’t want to be 14 storeys deep in a tunnel when that happened...

True, there’d most likely be a dedicated generator but, then again, we know about generators in Malta.

And even when they work, they’re only as reliable as the wiring that connects them to the services.

In stormy weather, we’d all be safer on the ferry – if it runs.
