The 'devil's double' returns to Malta

Latif Yahia, an officer in the Iraqi army who was forced to act as the double of Uday Hussein, one of the son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, has returned to Malta to tell his story.

Yahia was also in Malta last year when a film about his life - The Devil's Double - was shot here.

Yahiya said he was able to witness first hand the sadistic life of Uday Hussein. He witnessed a life of debauchery, rapes and killing at will, with one of the worst cases being when a bride was raped on her wedding day by Uday and left to die. 

Yahiya said he had no alternative but to serve as Hussein's double. He was forced into the role after having been imprisoned and tortured, and had to undergo plastic surgery to bring his already close resemblance even closer. His family too were imprisoned and held as hostages lest he escaped.

Yahiya, who is here as guest of Xarabank, is in the process of producing a documentary of what he has been through.
