Both teams had various new players making their debut for this curtain-raising Super Cup showdown played on Sunday.
Sarah Pace, Greta Zarb and Joanna Busuttil Gaerthy joined Luxol in summer while Steffi Demartino, Tina Demartino and Emma Grech are now Depiro players.
Luxol also had a new coach on the bench – Christof Storp. His girls showed better ideas as their aggressive defence made it difficult for Depiro to finish off attacks.
After a balanced opening, Luxol launched a series of fast breaks to pot 18 consecutive points. They led 24-6 five minutes from half-time.
Depiro came through this particular difficult moment. After changing ends 31-10 behind, they lifted their performance by a few notches but Luxol still did enough to begin the final 10 minutes 44-28 ahead.
As Depiro failed to maintain their pressure, Luxol regained control to all but seal their win as they increased their lead to 27 points, 57-30.
Depiro found their shooting range in the final minutes as they hit four three-pointers with the last, by ex-Luxol player Steffi Demar-tino, coming from near her zone.
