Hamrun Spartans grabbed their first win of the season when they edged Mosta 1-0 in the clash between the bottom-sides at the National Stadium this afternoon.
Brazilian striker Cadu Toneto Porcari, who was making his first start for the Spartans this season, took the chance with both hands as he struck the winner early in the second half to ease the pressure on Spartans coach Jesmond Zammit who had grown increasingly frustrated in seeing his team failing to grab a win after their opening five matches.
It was a fair outcome to a match which saw the Spartans showing the better ideas and were unlucky not to go into the interval with a commanding advantage after hitting the woodwork three times.
However, Toneto Porcari ease their nerves with his first goal for the club early in the second half. Gianluca Calabretta broke free on the right before picking up Massimo Grima whose low drive was diverted into the net by Toneto Porcari. Although the Spartans endured some nervy moments late on they still managed to hold on to their lead till the end.
Massimo Grima was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
