The Malta Weightlifting Association (MWA) have organised another competition in the build-up to upcoming events.

Fifteen male and eight female lifters from five different clubs took part in the latest competition.

Clint Grech headed the men’s classification with 263 points while Nicole Gatt won the women’s honour with 130 points. Ten national records were broken by two of the female lifters – Gatt and Destiny Vella Busuttil.

In the 48kg, Gatt set six new marks in the youths, juniors and seniors classes with her 35kg snatch and 85kg total.

Vella Busuttil established the other four records in the 63kg, for youths and juniors, with a clean and jerk of 55kg and a total of 90kg.

So far, 100 records have been set during MWA competitions this year. The competition was run by president Jesmond Caruana. Ramona Borg, Stephen Borg and Cleaven Cutajar acted as referees. Gayle Caruana was technical officer.

The MWA will hold its AGM tomorrow at the Cottonera Sports Complex, starting at 2.30 p.m.
