So the real estate section of the Malta Chamber of Commerce is unhappy about the government’s new tax scheme for high net worth individuals wanting to buy property and live in Malta (September 20)!
Funny isn’t it, it is only that part of the property buyers’ market, the foreign rich buyers, that they seem to be interested in.
Not a word about making it easier for cash-strapped locals being able to, either directly or through government-sponsored schemes, own some or all of the upwards of 50,000 of long vacant flats and apartments. Bet you they will also be the first to complain and bleat when, as is becoming increasingly inevitable irrespective of which government the country has, and on the basis of at least the unutilised national assets argument, some form of property tax on such long vacant and unutilised properties will sooner or later be introduced.
