“What started as a dream 14 months ago, has become a reality,” Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) president Tonio Cini said when addressing the participants of the first Young Driver Performance Master Class Sessions in Malta which were funded by the FIA Institute and Kunsill Malti għall-iSport.
The federation had applied for funds from the FIA Institute to hold a series of courses, one of which was intended to educate young drivers in improving their approach to the sport.
“Our requests were well received and the FIA Institute pledged their assistance,” Cini said.
“The KMS also stepped in to cover the federation’s 50 per cent contribution – namely €25,000.”
In a joint statement, Bernard Vassallo, the KMS chairman, said it was a pleasure for his organi-sation to assist the MMF in their innovative project.
“Sport, generally speaking, is not just about technique but demands sound preparation in other key factors such as psychological and physical preparation and even nutrition and anti-doping education,” Vassallo said.
He augured that the course will produce the desired benefits in the future besides leaving a positive effect across the various motorsport disciplines on the islands.
The course was delivered by Motor Sport Association Academy coach James Wozencroft, a former junior World Rally champion, and FIA Institute Excellence Academy mentor Greg Symes.
The Performance Master Class Sessions were very well received with the participation of 19 motor racing enthusiasts from the various sectors represented by the MMF.
