Maltapost recently authorised a stationery in Blacktail Street, St Paul’s Bay to act as a sub-post office. This has been a wise and long-sought facility in that particular area surrounded by at least five or six hotels and many permanent residents. The shop keeper is very efficient and friendly.
But there is one drawback. There is no letter box in the vicinity. Thus if one wants to register a letter, and at the same time has other mail, he would need to go round many blocks to find a convenient letter box. It seems to be the most logical aspect that a post office (even a sub-post office) should have the full facilities, including a nearby letter box. In fact all the sub-post offices I know of have such a facility nearby.
This in itself would not have been such a hardship if ordinary mail could also be left with the shop keeper, but Maltapost does not allow this, probably for security reasons. Adjacent to this shop there is a small square and therefore there is ample space for a letter box.
Can Maltapost provide a letter box or better still, can the Malta Communications Authority kindly look into this aspect? If need be, Maltapost under the guidance of the authority, should reassess the locations of letter boxes in the area.
