Gutierrez pens new deal

Argentina international midfielder Jonas Gutierrez confirmed yester-day he had signed a new four-year contract that will keep him at Newcastle until 2015.

The 28-year-old former Real Mallorca player ended speculation that he could be set to leave by committing to the club with two years of his existing deal still to run.

“I have said many times that I love playing for Newcastle. I love the city, the fans and the team, so I had no hesitation in signing a new contract,” Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez arrived during the summer of 2008 in what proved to be a problematic transfer with the Magpies believing they had signed him on a free transfer after the player had bought himself out of his existing deal. The clubs eventually settled a lengthy dispute.
