Davina Mangion, a member of the national swimming squad and coach, will depart for the UK tomorrow to begin a course leading to a Masters degree in Coach Education and Sports Development.

The one-year course is intended for students who want to develop a critical understanding of the relationships between sport, coaching, physical activity and the social context.

It is designed to meet the needs of those wishing to enhance their career prospects in coach education and sports development, providing participants with an in-depth, social-science based understanding of sport, culture, and coaching.

Mangion, who is the head coach of the swimming section at Sirens ASC, graduated as a physical education teacher from the Institute for Physical Education and Sport within the University of Malta in November 2010 .

During her stay in Bath, Mangion will train with the University of Bath swimming team. She also intends to join the national squad for competitions and training camps.

Her main objective for this season is to earn a place in Malta’s squad for the 11th FINA Short Course Swimming World Championships, to be held in Istanbul in December.

“I owe much to those who have supported and helped me throughout the years, especially my parents, ASA national coach Andy Colbourn and the Sirens ASC committee,” Mangion said in a statement.
