CUSCHIERI. On September 23, surrounded by her family, MARIA, neé Ellul, widow of Dr Anthony, aged 92, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Madeleine and Oliver Ellul, Vicky and John Portelli, Marika and William Dimech, Marguerite and Albert Borg, John and his wife Hannah, her grandchildren Gabriella, Mia and Stephanie, Julian, Niki and Philip, Martha and Samuel, Charisse and Thomas and their spouses and fiancées, her great-grandchildren, her devoted carer Emily and other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the medical team and all the staff at the M1 Karin Grech Hospital. The funeral leaves the hospital at 1.30 p.m. today for Balluta parish church, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Joseph’s Institute will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

MICALLEF. On September 25, LOUIS, aged 56, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Lina, nèe Cesareo, his son Mark and fiancèe Natalia, his daughter Janine and fiancè Claudio, his brothers and sisters John, Paul, Sonny, Miriam, Marthese, Joyce and Melina and their spouses, his mother-in-law Margaret, sister-in-law Marisa, nephews and nieces, friends and his brothers and sisters in the Carmelite Third Order, Mdina/Lunzjata branch. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Maria Bambina parish church, Naxxar where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated. Kindly remember him in your prayers. Lord grant him eternal rest.

SALIBA – Notary PHILIP SALIBA, LLD, UOM, aged 89. He is survived by his wife Marie Louise, née Bonello, his children Jeanette Laferla, widow of John Laferla, Hilda and her husband Harold Ellul Mercer, Margaret and her husband Cyril Anastasi, Anna Portelli, Henri and his wife Anne Marie Saliba, his sister, Sr Maria of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, his eight grandchildren, Michael and his fiancée Ann Marie, Pippa, Louisa, George, Paula, Andrew, Maria, and Mark, in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on September 29 at 3 p.m. for St Philip’s parish church, Żebbuġ, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 3.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Żebbuġ. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the family doctor and the staff at the hospital, especially the staff at Emergency Ward 1. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Third age lectures

The University of the Third Age, which forms part of the European Centre of Gerontology of the University of Malta, yesterday started accepting applications from those interested in attending lectures in the 2011/2012 programme.

Lectures will be held from Mondays to Thursdays between 9 to 11 a.m. at the Floriana centre and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sliema Centre. The programme will start on October 10.

Application forms may be collected from and handed in at the U3E office of the Floriana Centre at the Catholic Institute, Floriana, Monday to Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. For information call 2124 3202.
