YFA, KMS investing in the future
The Youth FA have teamed up with the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) to launch a new programme.
‘Investing in the Future’ is aimed at boosting grassroots football through the provision of adequate facilities and sports education.
In his address, Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, the president of the Youth FA, said that the government, through the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth and Sport and KMS, is contributing towards taking local sport forward as the introduction of the ‘Investing in the Future’ programme amply demonstrates.
Fr Tagliaferro urged the nurseries to put the well-being and education of children at the top of their priority list, insisting that these aspects are more important than the results.
Malta FA CEO Bjorn Vassallo expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Youth FA council and every volunteer helping out at local nurseries, adding that “football at this level is a breath of fresh air for the future of the beautiful game”.
Vassallo announced that, in the near future, the Malta FA will be holding a series of talks for the administrators of the clubs where, among other things, the importance of nurseries for the future of the game will be emphasised.
Bernard Vassallo, the chairman of the KMS, said all nurseries will be able to participate in four programmes, namely nutrition, psychology, bio-mechanical tests and child protection.
Clyde Puli, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, said ‘Investing in Future’ should elevate sport to a more professional level.
He added that the government has given its backing to this joint initiative by the KMS and the Youth FA as it will benefit the 8,400 children and youths in the 50 nurseries registered with the Youth FA.

I wish to congratulate Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro for his untiring efforts in promoting his favourite sport starting from the grassroots and his contribution to our youth. I similarly note the positive steps being taken by the Hon. Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, and Mr. Bernard Vassallo, Chairman of KMS.
May I ask what is being done to “invest in the future” of our youth in the field of motor sport? Are these motor sport youth second-class citizens? Hon. Clyde Puli and Mr. Vassallo are no doubt aware that karting is the basis of motor sports. What is the use of allocating resources for nutrition, psychology, bio-mechanical tests and child protection if at the same time the only available facility for the Island Karting Club (IKC) for karting has been partially demolished? Were Hon. Puli and Mr. Vassallo consulted before the temporary karting track in a dead end at Hal Far was closed down for the IKC? If in the affirmative, what did they do about it? Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing under this administration?
