Five men have been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to having injured two policemen during a wedding reception in Marsascala on  Saturday-Sunday night.

They also denied violently resisting police orders and swearing in public.

The accused are twins Peter Paul Camilleri and his brother Jesrit-Angel, 21, their father Peter, 56, cousin Carrin Camilleri, 31 and uncle Joseph Medina 46, all of Zabbar.

The incident happened during the wedding of a brother of the twins.

Police Inspector Fabian Fleri said in court that the incident happened when two women started arguing outside St Anne wedding hall in Marsascala. Jesrit-Angel became involved and started swearing at one of them.

Policeman Francis Formosa tried to calm the situation and asked Jesrit for his particulars, whereupon the other accused assaulted the officer and started to beat him. The second officer Jurgen Zerafa, tried to help his colleague and he was punched repeatedly as he lay on the floor.

One of the officers suffered a broken arm and the other suffered serious bruising and injuries to his face.
