Verdala Castle went back in time today, with its gardens transformed for re-enactments of four different periods.

Visitors could get a glimpse of life in medieval times thanks to the archers and other re-enactors of the Show of Arms Society, whose members make it a point to research and study costumes, weapons, equipment and lifestyle in medieval times, which coincided with the time when Count Roger came to Malta at the end of the feudal era.

Another section of the gardens featured the Legio Decimae Fretensis Malta, a cultural/historical organisation dedicated to recreating the way of life of the Romans.

Fast forward a few centuries, and the Historical Re-enactment Group presented life immediately before the arrival of the French in Malta, with many members dressed up as the members of the Reimento dei Cacciatori and the Maltese militias in the last years of the Knights.

The fourth re-enactment was presented by the WWII Re-enactment Group and featured life in the last war in Malta. The members of the group sought to recreate the life of Maltese soldiers who formed part of the Royal Malta Artillery and the King's Own Malta Regiment, as well as German troops.
