The General Workers' Union said this morning that Arriva drivers were unanimously following its directive not to operate bus services to the Malta Airshow today.

As a result, the bus company has announced that it will not run the service, the union said.

The union apologised to passengers affected by its directive, but said it was forced to take the action because of Arriva's 'intransigence'. It urged the company to resume talks on outstanding issued so that no further actions would need to be called.

The GWU said yesterday that a number of issues needed to be settled, such as the payment of overtime and the split shift problem.

Arriva reacted by saying that various offers it had made to the GWU had been rejected.

Arriva said that on Friday it offered a more comprehensive package including an immediate pay rise and  payment for additional hours.

It urged the union to suspend its industrial action and consult its members about the offers that had been made, so that talks could be concluded.
