Laws are there to be broken
It seems that in Lija laws can be broken without fear of retribution. For instance, large vehicles come through the village streets, even though they are prohibited from using them, at timesdamaging property; cars park on double yellow lines opposite the local council offices, and in full view of the warden who is supposed to be policing the street during school hours; people litter the streets, while dog owners fail to clean up after their pets.
Nobody seems to care, although these breaches of the law are reported to the council time and again. Promises of effective law enforcement are only made at election time and soon forgotten about.
Some residents grumble and complain privately about this utter disregard for the law yet they never take their complaints to the council. Lija is simply being run down before our very eyes and, sadly, most residents seem to accept it.

You should see the number of traffic violations in St.Paul's Bay.
Every day people too lazy to park properly will just pull into someone's drive, blockin the drive AND the pavement while they go shopping at Gormina Bakery or any of the other retailers in the area. And where are the wardens when this happens? Who knows?

Residents never take their complaints to the council because they have probably given up trying.
