A free international conference entitled Street Artists in a Virtual Space (St.Art) is proposing the use of virtual reality as a space in which to channel and communicate ideas related to the visual arts.

The conference brings two years of experimentation on street art and the use of 3D online virtual tools to a close

Organised by the Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi of Rome and Malta’s Opportunities Aid Foundation, the conference will take place on October 14 and 15. It brings two years of experimentation on street art and the use of 3D online virtual tools to a close. The project has been supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme.

The conference, which is supported by the Malta Council for Science and Technology, is aimed at street artists, art teachers, media professionals and people wishing to experiment with new media.

During the conference, participants will engage in discussions and become citizens in the virtual town of Metro, which comprise art students from Lithuania, Austria, Italy and Malta.

Parallel activities will be held at Mcast Institute of Art and Design and at Maria Regina College boys secondary school in Mosta, where students will have the opportunity of working on projects with street artists and using virtual space. These activities will take place in the days preceding the conference.

The aim of the project is to get to know the difference between aesthetic and street art forms.

The conference aims at encouraging wider arts participation, creative teaching and learning through a new educational environment such as Open SIM, a 3D virtual world. This platform also aims at developing an innovative learning tool which can be integrated into schools’ teaching activities.

Conference participation is free of charge. Those interested in attending are to register online at www.startproject.eu.
