Local film distributors KRS re-released Senna in cinemas last week for a limited period of time.
Senna is a documentary on Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian Formula One legend who was tragically killed aged 34 following a crash at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.
When it was originally released locally in July, The Sunday Times reviewer Paula Fleri-Soler described it as a documentary “that unlocks the secrets to Senna the man, Senna the racing driver, and ultimately, Senna the myth.
“It spans the amazing legend’s achievements from his first race to his tragic last one, and proves to be a breathtaking journey that will appeal to even those who do not know – or even like – the first thing about Formula One.”
The documentary charts the career of Senna up to his untimely death. It is told using official F1 footage interspersed with TV footage and commentary, home video footage and breathtaking footage from Senna’s car as he raced over the years.
Although there is plenty of input from F1 stalwarts, experts and friends and family members via voice-over, it is through genuine footage of the subject at work that events unfold, according to Fleri-Soler.
“It is to the filmmakers credit that as we edge closer to the final, inevitable tragic scenes, despite knowing the outcome it is difficult not to feel a terrible sense of foreboding, and ultimately a feeling of overwhelming loss as the final credits roll,” Fleri-Soler wrote.
