New gas regulators, intended to replace a batch which was deemed to pose a potential risk to consumers, will be available next week, gas supplier Liquigas said yesterday.

The statement follows a story published in The Times yesterday that the withdrawn regulators had not yet been replaced, a month after the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority ordered the replacement of the current Liquicontrol regulator and the blue TPA Butane LR2522 regulator, which has a red button on the knob.

The company said the consignment of new Liquicontrol regulators, which are “now fully compliant with European standard EN 12864”, left Italy on Wednesday and are expected to be available in Malta next week.

The new regulators will be available from Liquigas resellers and at the Liquigas office in Qajjenza by not later than September 30, Liquigas said.

All those owning Liquicontrol regulators imported by Liquigas Malta Ltd can replace them with the new model free of charge.

It said that, although no leakages or issues of compatibility were reported, it had insisted that the Italian manufacturer, Lagoplast, release an upgraded version.

“The new Liquicontrol will meet all European standards ensuring that the highest levels of quality and safety are met,” it said.
