A woman travelling aboard a bus has described how a fellow passenger was left covered in blood and another with a gash to the forehead when the bus they were travelling on mounted a central strip and crashed into a lamp post.

The accident happened on Tuesday at around 10.25 p.m, in Triq il-Ħaddiem, Marsa. Three people were on the bus at the time, which was coming from Valletta.

“Thankfully I managed to put my hand in front of my face just before impact,” said the passenger, who was not seriously injured.

“But another lady suffered what looked like a nasty facial injury. By the time an ambulance arrived her face and top were covered in blood. The other man had a gash across his forehead.”

Police confirmed that a woman, a 42-year-old Filipino residing in Mqabba, was seriously injured in the crash but was not in a critical condition. The man, a 54-year-old Englishman from Luqa, was slightly injured.

The bus driver, a 48-year-old man from Qormi, was not injured but was found to be suffering from shock.

The passenger said the driver had claimed he found himself unable to turn the steering wheel.

The police are investigating.
