Italian Serie A footballers will pay for their strike action earlier this season by having their Christmas break shortened.

The first round of matches in August were postponed after players chose to strike due to the failure to agree a new collective contract with the Football League. Now those fixtures have been rearranged for Wednesday December 21, just after the last round of weekend fixtures ahead of the Serie A winter break.

Serie A would have shut down for three weeks but now there will only be a two and a half week break.
