Ex-Spice Girl Mel B has told how motherhood is so different the third time round – because she has a supportive partner in her life at last.

Mel, 36, showed off her new baby Madison for the first time in Hello! and talked about the new-found happiness of her family life.

The singer and presenter said she would love to have more children with husband Stephen Belafonte.

Mel has children – Angel and Phoenix – from her first marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar, and her brief relationship with comedy actor Eddie Murphy.

She said: “Ideally you want to have your loving partner who you’ve created this baby with by your side throughout everything, and in Angel and Phoenix’s cases, that wasn’t the set up.

“I had a rocky marriage with Phoenix’s dad. The relationship with Angel’s dad, Eddie, was over halfway through the pregnancy, and I had to suck it up and get on with it.

“This time I’ve done it with my partner – someone to come to every prenatal appointment with me, to get excited by every scan – and it feels like I’ve finally done it right.”

Mel, who is now in Australia as an X Factor judge, went on: “When I was moaning to Stephen about my trapped nerve I was thinking, ‘I’ve never had anyone to complain to about these kinds of things’.”

Mel’s new daughter was born earlier this month, weighing in at six pounds and two ounces. She said the tot is “so gorgeous and such a chilled baby”.

The birth was eased by “laughing the whole time”, she said.

Her husband and elder daughter were daring each other to look at the baby’s head during the birth, Mel said.

“I was laughing so much I didn’t really push; five big chuckles and she was out,” she added.

After piling on more than four stones in weight during the pregnancy her weight loss regime has been based around Madison’s feeds.

“Breastfeeding is amazing; you can actually feel your stomach shrink with every feed,” she said.
