Pardew: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been “warned as to his future conduct” by the FA following his comments before the north east derby with Sunderland last month. The Magpies boss was charged with improper conduct for comments thought to relate to referee Howard Webb, who took charge of the August 20 clash. Pardew denied the charge and requested a personal hearing, but “the case was found proven” by an FA regulatory commission, leading to a slap on the wrist.

Lechkov: Legendary Bulgarian footballer Yordan Lechkov, now mayor of the southeastern town of Sliven, was handed a suspended sentence for mismanagement and abuse of power yesterday. The Yambol regional court ruled a suspended three-year sentence for the former midfielder for leasing municipality buildings to private companies without a public tender and without collecting rent for a period of two years.

Gabbidon: Danny Gabbidon could be fit for QPR’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday after his knee injury proved less serious than first feared. Wales defender Gabbidon had a scan which showed no structural damage, meaning he could now be available this weekend.

Coulibaly: Mali international central defender Adama Coulibaly will miss his club Auxerre’s next three matches with a thigh strain. Coulibaly suffered the injury facing Caen last weekend and will now miss matches against Lorient, Sochaux and Saint Etienneg.

Strutz: Mainz president Harald Strutz has been re-elected for a further three years. The Bund-esliga’s longest-serving pres-ident will now move into his 25th year at the helm after overseeing a huge period of change at the Coface Arena. Mainz finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, qualifying for the Europa League.

Schaaf: Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf is set to be rewarded for leading his side into second place after six matches of the season with the club announcing their intention to prolong his stay with the club. Schaaf is the longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga having taken charge of Bremen over 12 years ago.
