A 20-year-old Portuguese who today jailed for 10 years and fined €30,000 after he pleaded guilty of importing heroin and cocaine.

Paco Carmona Alvez had been asked to carry the drugs in the soles of his shoes while travelling to Malta from Dusseldorf in August last year.

He had been found carrying 148.5 grammes of cocaine with a purity of 42 per cent, worth €11,286 and 491.4 grammes of heroin, with a purity of 35 per cent and a street value of €22,604.
