GWU head accuses Go of manoeuvring against its workers
GWU general secretary Tony Zarb this morning flagged Go as a company 'manoeuvring against the interests of its workers'.
Closing a union conference this morning, he said the company had made a €26 million profit but transferred this money to a Greek company so as to appear as if it made losses.
It was its workers who had worked hard for the company to obtain success and they should not be made sacrificial lambs by seeing their conditions deteriorate or by being laid off.
Mr Zarb spoke on the situation in Libya and called on the government to address the situation of exports as Maltese companies were finding it difficult to deliver their goods.
Mr Zarb accused the government of discriminating against the GWU and claimed that his officials were being told by people in government that they were comfortable discussing situations with other unions but not with the GWU.
He hailed as historical the recent meeting between the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions, the GWU and Forum, saying this could be a step towards a new era of trade unionism in Malta.

Company money made in one country does not tie the money to that country.

The GWU issued a Purported "DEADLINE" to Arriva almost two weeks ago to resolve the issue of drivers split -shifts and payment thereof .What happened- as no action or resolvement has been forthcoming just more paroli biss as usual.

Two thing Mr. Zarb
First, If the allegation is correct it is very damaging. Rather than throwing mud what are you as the General Secretary of the biggest local union going to do about it?
Two, Few weeks ago you said you know of wrong doing at the Italian owned dockyard. Again, We have not heard any further details or action.
As they said Mr. Zarb: 'What's cooking?

"Mr Zarb accused the government of discriminating against the GWU and claimed that his officials were being told by people in government that they were comfortable discussing situations with other unions but not with the GWU."
Maybe if the GWU wasn't the LP's bed partner and for once becomes independent from any Maltese politics so as to TRULY represent people not that of propaganda on the PN, maybe the government might feel comfortable!

If this is the case Go is also deceiving the small shareholders who trusted their money in the Company. It is a shame.

For Mr Zarb the problems of the Maltese workers are all the faults of others, never of the GWU itself and its lack of flexibility.

The GWU is only a watchdog, GWU is not the employer of GO workers and other thousands of workers suffering injustice under this fragile PM hands. How can somebody blame GWU for such bad rights on workers? The goverment intention to twist facts, and balme everybody except the admistration of GonziPn, had become the order of the day in Malta. Listen to Net news, what is happening in Greece, is because these last two years there is a Socialist goverment, and never mention that the socialist Goverment of Greece inherited the situation from the former Nationalist goverment of Greece. Some news coverage insult the peoples intelegece.
