Air Malta announced yesterday that its office in Tripoli will reopen today, but it did not yet know when its daily flights to the Libyan capital will resume.
The airline also said that it has been granted rights for a twice weekly flight to Benghazi. A general sales agent will also open in Benghazi today. The airline did not say when its Benghazi flights will start but said that it was important that visas were also issued from Benghazi, thus making the service viable. Visas are currently only issued in Tripoli.
“The airline is closely working with the Maltese government and Libyan officials with a view to restart and facilitate travel arrangements as soon as possible now that traffic rights for both cities have been granted,” the airline said.
Flights over Libya are currently restricted owing to the UN-imposed no-fly zone.
