Church to which I am proud to belong

John Guillaumier (September 14) made a scathing, uncalled for and biased attack on the Catholic Church. He boasted that he felt better when he left the Church 45 years ago and he completely forgot the teachings of the Church to which he was indoctrinated: that you do not insult those whom you do not agree with.

Besides the insult to the Church and its followers, Mr Guillaumier took pride to mention the misdeeds of a few priests and completely forgot the excellent work being done by the great majority of priests, nuns and lay persons. In every street of Malta, Mr Guillaumier can see examples of the excellent work of the Church like schools, old people’s homes, children’s institutions, youth centres, Dar tal-Providenza and others. One must also not forget the nearly a thousand priests, nuns and lay persons working abroad in very difficult situations.

Mr Guillaumier, this is the Church you left, not the one you wrongly painted as “scandal-ridden”. One final word. I am proud to be “credulous” in the Church’s and God’s teachings and also a conformist to its teachings.
