The 2011 junior championships were won by Neptunes and Sirens who turned out to be the best teams in these competitions this year.

The Reds from Balluta Bay won the Under 14 title with a clean sheet out of ten matches. They were followed by Sliema.

Meanwhile, Neptunes’ Under-16 team also remained unbeaten, though conceding points in two drawn matches against runners-up and neighbours San Ġiljan.

The Reds have thus maintained their success trail of never missing out on a junior title in the last 23 years.

The Under-19 category was marked by success for Sirens who retained the honour they won last year. They finished on 19 points from eight matches, followed by Neptunes.

In the last junior competition of the season, Sirens won the Under-19 knock-out when they defeated Neptunes in the final played earlier this month.

One can say that the competitions for the cadets were marked by some keen matches, with the best two teams sharing the honours.

The only blemish, according to several followers of the game, is the fact that clubs are still allowed to make use of foreigners in their junior teams, thus limiting the op-portunity for more Maltese youths to come through the ranks.
