Manure on the streets of Valletta
May I point out to the competent authorities, not least the Valletta local council, the urgent need to enact by-laws that would oblige horse-cabs circulating Valletta to be equipped with manure-collecting bags, that would spare our roads from endless faeces and stink not fit for a capital city. This practice has long been in force in respectable cities such as Vienna, whereas in Prague, the horse-cab driver cleans up each time his horse dumps.
I see no reason why these laws are not in place in Valletta. Manure-collecting bags come in various forms and are usually suspended between the horse and the cab, causing no irritation or harm to the animal.
Action needed!

Andre Borg is this stinky problem in Valletta streets BISS??? After a days work in Valletta the horses pass through Hamrun for home and decorate the whole lenght of our main road. Then cars pass over it and distribute it all along High Street thus becoming a really stinking road!!

I am from Valletta, but I agree with Vince. This is a national problem. There are several solutions
a) Get the local wardens to stop the cabbies, if they catch them ,and make them clean up or a hefty fine.
b) create a hotline number for the general public and report cabbies that leave dung behind them.
c) Tax them 2 euros per day, and with the money employ a cleaner with a small electric car to clean up all the routes, plus a cell number to contact the cleaner in case fresh dung is dumped
d) Force them to use a bag like every country or take away their licence.

The problem is not restricted to one locality, as you rightly pointed out. If I urge my local council (Valletta) whilst you lobby yours, perhaps one day someone would heed our message and do something about it!

@ Andre Borg - slight correction. This stuff will be called manure once it's doing it feertilising work in the fields. In the streets, it's simply sh*t.
Otherwise, in perfect concord with your letter.

Excreta everywhere. Please go for a walk to Ta'Qali on a Sunday morning.and see for yourself. As from 7 o'clock in the morning jockeys with their horses fill the place.Apart from becoming a dangerous place for walking it is also filthy and unhealthy.
