I recently returned to Malta for a holiday, and hired a car for the first time. But what a shock this turned out to be!

Driving standards on the island are atrocious, and courtesy is non-existent. Overtaking on the inside lane appears to be normal, though it is illegal in the rest of the EU.

I live in Cyprus, where driving standards are notoriously bad, but I have to say not as bad as in Malta. Have Maltese drivers adopted the driving standards of their Italian cousins?
