• Car-Free Day activities, held today in Victoria by the Youth Committee of the Don Bosco Oratory of Victoria, will include street football and volleyball at St Augustine Square from 9 a.m., a photo exhibition in Palm Street from 9 a.m., children’s traditional games in Vajringa Street at 10.30 a.m., a photo treasure hunt from St Augustine Square at 10 a.m., water games at Independence Square at 2 p.m. and a variety show in upper Republic Street at 4.30 p.m.
Activities will also take place in Nadur, where the local council is planning children’s games, a treasure hunt, a cycling tour, a cooking demonstration and other entertainment.
• A blood donation session will take place at Gozo General Hospital today between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
• Radju Lauretana will be holding a seminar for volunteers at Ghajnsielem parish centre on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch.
• The 6th edition of the Qala International Folk Festival, organised by Qala council, will take place at Bishop M. Buttigieg Square, Qala, today at 11 a.m. The Menhir Qala Folk Group will take part. A re-enactment of a traditional wedding will be held, followed by the opening of a handcrafts exhibition, accompanied by folk music by the Ta’ Seguna Group. At 7.30 p.m. there will be performances by Menhir Qala Junior Folk Group, Menhir Qala Folk Group, Citta dei Templi folk band and the Inis Ealga School of Irish Dancing.
• The Charter of European Rural Communities will hold its next meeting in Nadur between Friday and Sunday. Delegates from Bucine (Italy), Kolindros (Greece), Lefkara (Cyprus), Moravce (Slovenia), Lasse (Austria), Stary Poddvorov (Czech Republic) and Nadur will be present. The theme of the conference is ‘Demographic development in rural areas. Ageing and decrease of the population and the effects for the livability in the villages’. The delegates will deliver presentations and discuss a questionnaire during workshops.
• Members of the four Padre Pio Prayer Groups in Gozo will meet at the Capuchin Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces in Victoria on Friday at 6.30 p.m. to celebrate the liturgical feast of Padre Pio. The service will begin with the rosary, followed by a concelebrated Mass. The Fjur t’Assisi choir will take part.
• The end of summer barbecue by the Xagħra Scout Group will be held at Ta’ Mena Estate, Marsalforn, on Friday at 8 p.m. There will be entertainment by the Cini Brothers Band. Bookings by tomorrow on 9922 1449 or 9943 3442.
• The Eucharistic Movement will hold a prayer evening at St Francis church, Victoria, on Saturday at 8.30 p.m., followed by Mass at midnight.
• A charity fair, organised by the Friends of The Sick and Elderly in Gozo, will be held at the football ground near Victoria bus station next Sunday from 7.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a €10 charge for each car.
• ‘Gozo Through Time’, an exhibition of paintings by Joseph Engerer, is on show at the Banca Giuratale, Independence Square, Victoria. It is open until next Sunday; opening hours are Monday to Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.
• ‘Heritage in Stone’, a collective art exhibition organised by the Housing Authority, is on show at the Exhibition Hall, St Francis Square, Victoria. Students from the Malta School of Art, Mcast Institute of Art and Design and the Wistin Camilleri Gozo Centre for Art and Crafts are taking part. The exhibition will remain open until September 30; opening hours are Monday to Friday between 8.30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
• Students who attended summer drama workshops organised by the Għaqda Drammatika Xewkija will stage Is-Sultan u l-Kaptan by Trevor Zahra at Teatru Ġovanni in Xewkija on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available from TeatruĠovanni or by calling 9921 1503.
