Ceara: Brazilian defender Marcos Ceara has signed a new one-year contract with Paris St Germain, extending his stay with the capital club until the end of the 2013 season. The club confirmed the news in a short statement on their website yesterday. The 31-year-old Ceara, who has been standing in as captain in the absence of the injured Mamadou Sakho, has made over 100 league appearances for PSG since joining from Internacional in 2007.

Del Bosque: Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque told As yesterday that he would prefer to stay in his current position than accept an offer to coach abroad, but also admitted that he is likely to retire in the not-too-distant future. When asked why he turned down financially-tempting proposals from both Inter and Chelsea over the summer, Del Bosque replied: “Because I am happy and satisfied with the Federation (RFEF), and with the national team. Being happy with your work is more important than money.”

Oenning: Under-fire Hamburg coach Michael Oenning will survive for at least one week more, director of sport Frank Arnesen said yesterday after his side’s home defeat to Moenchengladbach left them bottom of the German league. Having only taken charge in March, the 45-year-old Oenning has enjoyed just one league win from 14 matches with Hamburg on top of seven defeats and six draws. “Michael Oenning will be our coach for next Friday’s game in Stuttgart,” Arnesen said.

Barton: QPR captain Joey Barton appeared to take a swipe at Karl Henry by labelling the Wolves midfielder a “Sunday league player” after getting the better of their latest battle. Henry angered Barton with some heavy challenges during a clash between Wolves and Newcastle last season, and then aimed a verbal dig at the then Magpies player. Barton wrote on Twitter after the match: “I bet u Kelvin [sic] Henry feels like an idiot again today. He should just keep his trap firmly shut.”
