It started out six months ago as a project, but Ellie and the Oscars are fast becoming a familiar name on the local scene thanks to the success of its first two releases.

Popular radio singles Pretty Rival and later, Dancing In The Rain offered different aspects of the band’s musical spectrum, the mellower ambient pop of the second single balancing out the in-your-face upbeat vibe that the debut delivered with a punch.

Now, Ellie and the Oscars are back with their latest single, The Enemy, which is possibly their most upbeat offering to date.

By design, the project, which essentially comprises Tribali vocalist Eliza Borg and Red Electrick guitarist Peter Borg, is one of constant development and experimentation, seeking to create new sounds by blending live instruments and triggered samples; a mindset that is perfectly captured on the new single.

“We’re taking our time to develop the songs in the studio,” the band said in a comment. “Each release is another step towards our debut album, which we hope to put out in near future.”

Other plans for the future include another single which will also come with an accompanying video.

“There seems to already be a lot of interest in what we’ll come up with; let’s just say that the visuals are likely to be inspired by the experimental vein in our music.”

Not as imminent but still on the cards are the band’s plans to perform live. “We’re taking our time, as going out live requires a lot of preparation and we want to deliver the best possible product onstage. Besides, it may still be too early as our sound is still in its formative period and could go in any direction.”

As with the previous two singles, The Enemy was written by Eliza and Peter, the latter also recording and producing the song.

Mixing and mastering was done by Briton Dann Pursey, who has also worked with the likes of Westlife, JLS, The Saturdays, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey and The Wanted.
