Malta will host the World Health Organisation’s regional committee for Europe in September 2012.

Speaking at this year’s committee meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, WHO Director General, Margaret Chan, thanked Malta for its invaluable contribution to the provision of humanitarian aid to Libya. She also thanked Health Minister Joe Cassar for his role in extending medical support.

In his address, Dr Cassar spoke about health inequalities and Malta’s role in addressing them nationally and internationally.

The Superintendent of Public Health, Raymond Busuttil, was appointed as member on the standing committee of the WHO’s regional committee for Europe.

Dr Busuttil’s appointment “is particularly welcomed” especially since “Malta has not been represented on this standing committee for the past 15 years,” the Health Ministry said.
