The Confederation of Malta Trade Union, the ForUM, and the General Workers' Union held a preliminary meeting today to discuss their future relations.

Such a meeting is a first in recent history of trade unionism in Malta.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Edward Zammit, who some time ago was invited by John Monks, the former secretary general of European Trade Union Council, to convene the meeting and to act as moderator among Malta's three trade union confederations.

"The meeting was a positive one, which augurs well for the future.

"The three organisations agreed to start holding regular meetings and to explore ways of closer collaboration among them," Prof. Zammit said.
